On our walking adventure we will the spectacular Hardangerfjord, the southernmost of the three great fjords and known as the Queen of Fjords. Our journey will give us an intimate experience of pastoral, rural Norway. Our walks takes us through a lush, spectacular landscape, from charming villages with picturesque apple orchards which line the fjord, to the magnificent Folgefonna National Park with its extraordinary waterfalls and glaciers.
Days 1, 2 & 3 Bergen/Ulvik: Meet in the World Heritage city of Bergen. Take the old post road from Granvin to Ulvik, through forests and meadows to the charming lake at Vatnaset. Hike to Frystetjom lake for a picnic and views of snow-capped Mt Kvasshovden. Hike the cider trail and get to know the locals during lunch at a family-run farm.
Days 4, 5 & 6 Lofthus: Travel by boat to Lofthus, famous for its apple orchards and delicious cider: We walk the buccolic 'fruit trail', sampling cider along the way. Travel by boat to Kinsarvik and walk up the Husedalen Valley, to visit its four dramatic waterfalls. Hike the Queen's Trail, to enjoy spectacular views of the glaciers of Folgefonna National Park before descending on stone steps, built by Cistercian monks. Visit the traditional village of Agatunet, with its 45 listed houses and the oldest standing courtroom in Norway.
Day 7 Utne & Bergen: Travel across the fjord by ferry to stay in one of the prettiest towns on the water. Visit the Hardanger Folk Museum. Return to Bergen by boat.
