Our hike circumnavigates the magnificent Valle Maira, following the Percorsi Occitani. Our hikes explore a diverse and rugged landscape; along rushing rivers, across mountain passes to picnic by the side of pristine Alpine lakes. Along the way we have many opportunities to spot the abundant wild life, marmots and chamois abound! At the end of the day we retire to cosy mountain hotels to enjoy excellent Occitan cuisine accompanied by the finest wines of Piedmont. The local gin isn't bad either!
Days 1 & 2: Allemandi and Elva. Rendezvous in Cuneo and transfer to the Valle Maira. Head out for an exploratory walk with magnificent views of the valley. Hike to the village of Elva through shady pine forests, visit the local museum which documents the history of wig making in the Europe.
Days 3 & 4: Chiappera. Cross the San Michele Valley and over the stunning Serasin Pass to the attractive hamlet of Chiappera. This village is beautifully renovated, with cobbled streets and slate-roofed houses. Spectacular hike to circumnavigate the Rocca Provenzale which is visible from miles around.
Days 5, 6 & 7: Finello. Explore the high Gardetta Valley, and its military history; bunkers, gun emplacements and guard posts dating back to the 1800s, enjoy lunch in a mountain refuge. Hike up though larch woods to the enchanting Lago Nero. Explore the villages of the Marmora valley, which date back to the Middle Ages and are full of architectural and artistic gems. Our hotel specialises in delicious occitan-provencal cuisine and boasts a magnificent wine list.
