While Paris may be France’s head, Burgundy can be thought of as its stomach; it is a land of long meals based on the best ingredients and accompanied by the finest wines. Burgundy’s history is inextricably linked with wine which was made here even before the arrival of Christianity. Burgundy is home to three of France's finest vineyards; the famed Côte d’Or responsible for superb Pinot Noir, Maconnais home of Pouilly Fuisse and further south Beaujolais. But Burgundy has much more to offer than famous vineyards, it has a rich historical, architectural and cultural heritage. We visit Medieval castles and Renaissance gardens, explore the magnificent cathedral town of Cluny and sample the cultural riches of Medieval Beaune the capital of Burgundy and home to the incomparable Hotel Dieu.
Day 1 & 2: Fuissé and Beaujolais Walk through picture-perfect countryside to explore the rocky escarpment of La Roche de Solutré, explore the most northern part of Beaujolais and Julienas, one of the ten Beaujolais cru villages, enjoy a tasting in Juliénas. Hotel La Source des Fees
Day 3, 4 & 5: Cluny and Cormatin Walk to the magnificent medieval village of Brançion, visit the chateau and enjoy exceptional 360 degree views from the ruined citadel; visit the charming town of Cluny one of the oldest and most important monastic centres in Burgundy, with its superb 10th C. Abbey, enjoy a picnic overlooking the dazzling hilltop 10th C. chateau of Berzé-le-Châtel. Day 6 & 7: Beaune and Côte de Nuits Walk along the Chemin des Grands Crus passing through the world's most famous wine villages. Visit the imposing 16th C. Château of Clos de Vougeot the largest single Gran Cru vineyard of the Côte de Nuits. Enjoy an informal wine tasting with a specialist wine guide. Stay in Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy.
