Famed for its white truffles, delicious cheeses, and hazelnuts; with village names like Barolo and Barbaresco, it’s easy to understand why Piemonte is a gourmet’s paradise. But the region offers much more than wine and gastronomic delights, the countryside is as beautiful as it is bountiful. Our walks take us from the dramatic landscape of the Alta Langa, with its hazelnut groves and stunning views of the Alps, through the manicured vineyards of Barolo and Barbaresco, to the remote and rugged Valle Maira. Here we get stunning views of the mountains, with Mont Blanc and Monviso dominating the sky line.

Piemonte is a gourmet’s paradise and with its abundance of excellent fresh produce and talented artisan food producers it comes as no surprise that the Slow Food movement started here. And for wine lovers Piemonte offers something to suit every palate, from Barolo, the most powerful long-lived red wine to Gavi, and other less well known delights.  This trip places a special emphasis on food and wine, combining walking  with visits to cellars, tutored tastings and food and wine pairing.

Day 1 & 2 Igliano: Meet in the magnificent city of Turin, the cosmopolitan capital of Piemonte; transfer to the wild landscape of the Alta Langa and the picturesque village of Igliano. Walk through hazelnut groves to the medieval village of Murazzano, the regional capital of cheese for a chance to taste the local Robiola.

Day 3 & 4  Barolo and Barbaresco: Wander though a manicured landscape of vineyards, hike between famous wine villages on the vineyard trail, visit the charming village of Barolo, and visit its state of the art wine museum; learn about the local wines in two tutored wine-tastings exploring both well known and more obscure grape varieties.

Day 5, 6 & 7 Valle Maira: Transfer to the remote Occitan valley, take ancient paths to stunning lakes and stone villages, walk the highlights of the Percorsi Occitani, explore  the picturesque hamlets of the lush Marmora Valley. Enjoy delicious Occitan cuisine.
