Mother Nature dealt the Cairngorms a hand full of aces. Twice the size of the Lake District, the Cairngorms National Park has more mountains, forest paths, rivers, lochs, wildlife hotspots and distilleries than you can possibly imagine. The Cairngorms are home to five of the UK's six highest mountains  and I was so lucky to spend my latest holiday there.

I spent a week walking amongst huge forests of ancient native trees, dipping my toes in cascading waterfalls, and observing more wildlife than you can imagine. The highlight of course were the red squirrels, once rare due to competition from grey squirrels but now starting to make a comeback. They are so tiny and quite enchanting, its magical to see them.

We stayed in the beautiful historic region of Badenoch just south of Aviemore. It's a hidden gem, off the beaten track and uncrowded even in the holiday season. We were blessed with warm sunny weather and it was a just a perfect week.

The Cairngorms National Park. will be featuring in my Scottish trip in 2022 so keep an eye out for that new itinerary on the website. In the meantime if you happen to find yourself in the area don't miss the Old Post office cafe, https://www.kincraigartcafe.com/ one of the best cafes in Scotland!
